- │ DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT │
- └────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
-
- THE CALLING TREE is released into the shareware distribution network under
- the following terms and conditions.
-
- Users of THE CALLING TREE must accept this disclaimer of warranty: "THE
- CALLING TREE is supplied as is. The author disclaims all warranties,
- expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties of
- merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The author assumes no
- liability for damages, direct or consequential, which may result from the use
- of THE CALLING TREE."
-
- THE CALLING TREE is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to the
- user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends, but please do
- not give it away altered or as part of another system. The essence of
- "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer users with quality
- software without high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
- continue to develop new products. If you find this program useful and find
- that you are using THE CALLING TREE and continue to use THE CALLING TREE
- after a 30 day trial period, you must make a registration payment to
- IN/QUEST,LLC.
-
- The registration fee will license one copy for use on any one computer at any
- one time. You must treat this software just like a book. An example is that
- this software may be used by any number of people and may be freely moved
- from one computer location to another, so long as there is no possibility of
- it being used at one location while it's being used at another. Just as a
- book cannot be read by two different persons at the same time.
-
- Commercial users of THE CALLING TREE must register and pay for their copies
- of THE CALLING TREE within 30 days of first use or their license is
- withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made by contacting IN/QUEST,LLC.
-
- Anyone distributing THE CALLING TREE for any kind of remuneration must first
- contact IN/QUEST,LLC. at the address below for authorization. This
- authorization will be automatically granted to distributors recognized by the
- (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and such
- distributors may begin offering THE CALLING TREE immediately (However
- IN/QUEST,LLC. must still be advised so that the distributor can be kept
- up-to-date with the latest version of THE CALLING TREE).
-
- You are encouraged to pass a copy of THE CALLING TREE along to your friends
- for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy if they find
- that they can use it. All registered users will receive a copy of the latest
- version of THE CALLING TREE system.

- └────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
-
- Please disregard if you have registered your version of THE CALLING TREE.
-
- Although you may not have paid anything to get this copy of THE CALLING TREE,
- it is not a free program. It is distributed on a "shareware" basis. What's
- that?
-
- Shareware is a form of distribution which gives user a chance to try software
- before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue to use it, you
- are expected to register. Individual programs differ on details -- some
- request registration while others require it, some specify a maximum trial
- period. With registration, you get anything from the simple right to
- continue using the software to an updated program with optional printed
- manual (See 'Registration (Why/What do you get)')
-
- Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the
- copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated
- below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like commercial
- authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there
- are good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
- distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy and
- distribute the software, either to everyone, or to a specific group. For
- example, some authors require written permission before a commercial disk
- vendor may copy their Shareware.
-
- Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find
- software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's commercial or
- Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you
- can try before you buy. And because the overhead is low, prices are low
- also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use
- the product, you don't pay for it.
-
- THE CALLING TREE is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to you

- │ │
- │ THE CALLING TREE - OVERVIEW │
- └────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
-
- THE CALLING TREE is a database aimed at helping and organization that needs
- to track its members in a hierarchical manner. Meaning... At the very top
- there is one person who is the beginning of an organization of some nature or
- another. He/She has some function or responsibility where they have to
- contact one or more people directly and those people then have a function or
- responsibility to contact others directly under them. And so on down through
- the tree. It might be an emergency calling system for some emergency
- response effort, or some simple contact tree to keep club members up to date
- on meeting changes, or for a large network marketing organization wanting to
- track all the people downline from them.
-
- The Calling Tree supports...
-
- 1) The Calling Tree supports system capacities up to 1 million people
- which can be up to 1 thousand levels from the top of the tree with up
- to 10,000 people per immediate Family Queue. Automatically keeps
- count of any members total downline group number.
- 2) It can automatically assign members to the next available Family
- Queue.
- 3) Delete anyone (Any associated downline will automatically compress up
- to the next level.
- 4) Move any member to any other member's Family Queue. (If a member has a
- downline, Optionally move the their downline with them or let their
- downline compress up to the next level)
- 5) Track up to 7 phone numbers (Day, Night, Cellular, Fax, Voice Mail,
- Pager, Other). Vanity (Alpha/Numeric) numbers are supported
- 6) Dial any phone number directly from the screen.
- 7) Track up to 5 dates. International Date Formats are supported.
- 8) Several print out options, including ability to print out multiple
- layers of Family Queues for maximum contact capability
- 9) Search for and retrieve tree members using phrases or key words. Do
- compounded searches {AND, OR, NOT} in multiple passes.
- 10) Quick Key views of whole database, member's Family Queue or Groups.
- 11) Quick Key step up/down through tree.
- 12) Print outs are to a default printer (Default is Epson Compatible)
- 13) Look at, search refine, and work on database subsets
- 14) Quasi contact management features.
- 15) MLM Genealogy is supported.
- 16) Calendar Viewer (Page Forward/Backward) through Monthly Calendar
- 17) Integrate your own customized list of alternate programs to launch.
- Call up your favorite text editor or word processor, run a CD etc.

- ----[ GLOSSARY OF TERMS ]----
-
- LEVEL
- This is how many people are between you and the top of the tree. If you are
- Bob and you started this program and then added Sue to your family queue, you
- would be level zero and Sue would be level 1. If you added John to your
- family queue, John would also be level 1, but if you added John to Sue's
- family queue, John would be level 2.
-
- FAMILY QUEUE (Frontline)
- Number of people (tree members) directly below you in the tree (could be
- hundreds). This could be your immediate downline if you are in network
- marketing.
-
- FAMILY QUEUE PARENT (Upline)
- Person directly above you in the tree (will be only one). This might be your
- sponsor if you are using this in network marketing.
-
- GROUP or DOWNLINE
- A tree member's downline consists of all those people in the member's
- immediate/direct contact group and all the people in those contact groups.
-
- When you have a tree organization, every member of the tree is related to
- someone else in an hierarchical fashion. A simple tree might look like this.
-
- Level

- ┌───────────┬─┴─────────┬─────────────┐

- -2- IVAN HARRY MO RICK AL PAUL TED ALICE
- │
- ┌───┴───┐
- │ │
- -3- FRICK FRACK
-
-
- Note: It was possible, for illustration purposes, to draw
- this tree from left to right rather than from top down. I
- chose from top down. So, consequently, all references in
- the documentation text are 'up' or 'down' or 'upline' or
- 'downline'. Example: Frick and Frack are downline from Mo.
- Frick, Frack, Mo, Harry, Ivan are downline from Sue. Sue is
- their upline.
-
- When building and maintaining a tree it is important to have a handy means to
- recognize those relationships. THE CALLING TREE does this with a constant
- reference to Level from the top of the tree and the Family Queue Number. The
- 'Level' refers to the steps a member is removed from the top of the tree and
- the Family Queue Number refers to how many people are in a member personal

- and immediate downline. Notice in the example above, that Mo is level 2 (2
- steps from the top) and has 2 people in his Family Queue (Frick and Frack).
- Sue is level 1 (1 step from the top) and has 3 people in her Family Queue
- (Ivan, Harry and Mo). Sue has a Group of 5 (Ivan, Harry, Mo, Frick and
- Frack).
-
- You may at sometime want to move someone closer to the beginning of the tree.
- Just reassign them to a queue at a lower level. It is that easy.
-
- General Information....
-
- Pressing [F1] from many places or screens in the system will give you a
- context sensitive help screen with information relative to where you are at
- the moment.
-
- The exception to this is the few times that you may be in a scrolling list
- screen. In those instances the [F1] key will give you 'Jump [F1]' window.
- This window allows you to enter a key word in order to jump to another part
- of the list. The key word is only relative to the index key. If the list is
- keyed on the last name then entering the last name will help you jump
- directly to the area of the list with a last name similar to what you typed.
- If the list is indexed (sorted) on the date field then the [F1] key will not
- work because I have sorted the database on the Julian date (005234) not the
- actual date.
-
- The [Esc] key will in most cases cancel and back you out of where you are.

- │ THE CALLING TREE - QUICK START:....... │
- └────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
-
- First set a system environment variable 'ZTREE'= CTREE directory.
- Example: SET ZTREE=C:\CTREE.
- This can be in the autoexec.bat file or directly at the system prompt.
-
- Next place the unarchived files in their own directory, switch to that
- directory and type 'CT'. The program will ask for pertinent information for
- the system root member or header record. It wants to know who is the system
- owner/user or top (first) person in the tree. Press [F8] to save and then
- select 'A' to add new members to your tree's database. The default setup is
- automatic build/assign to 5 downline members for each person. When 5 is
- reached for each level then a new level is started.
-
- If you want to customize the system options for your use then go into the
- System Defaults Configuration screen (selecting 'S' from the main menu) and
- change the options you desire.
-
- Two specific options on this screen that you may want to change immediately.
-
- 1. You may want to change 'A-Automatic Build' to 'G-Guess Build', if you are
- going to want to select each person's upline rather than the system
- automatically assigning them for you.
-
- 2. If you are going to want to use your own special identification numbers
- (ID's) for each person then change 'A-Automatic ID Assign' to 'M-Manual
- ID Assign'. In automatic mode the ID numbers are assigned 1,2,3,4,5...
- etc.

- │ │
- │ SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:....... │
- └────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
-
- THE CALLING TREE, requires an MS-DOS Compatible computer with a hard disk and
- minimum of 500 of KB RAM. It requires MS-DOS version 3.30 or better to run.
-
-
-
- ┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
- │ │
- │ INSTALLATION │
- └────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
-
- First Installation....
-
- Copy the distribution file 'ZTREE*.*' to a new directory on your hard drive.
- If the file is an executable file (.EXE) type ZTREExx [ENTER] to have it
- automatically self extract from its compressed distribution file. If the
- file is a ZIPped file (.ZIP) first use PKUNZIP v2.04g to unzip or uncompress
- the file by typing PKUNZIP ZTREExx [ENTER]. As you are reading this message
- you probably have already accomplished the unarchiving part.
-
- Some options...,
- A: Installing THE CALLING TREE for the first time
-
- First set a system environment variable 'ZTREE'= CTREE directory.
- Example: SET ZTREE=C:\CTREE.
- This can be in the autoexec.bat file or directly at the system prompt.
-
- Just copy the distribution file to a directory on your hard disk, type
- ZTREExx.exe to self extract all the program files (If you are reading
- this then you have already done that), then type 'CT' to start it up. Be
- sure to go to system configuration and default setup screen to customize
- your use of this program.
-
- B: Installing an Upgrade of THE CALLING TREE. There a two different ways
- you can upgrade. Either method will now require that you set a system
- environment variable 'ZTREE' to the location of CTREE directory.
-
- 1. Installing the new files directly to the OLD directory. If you choose
- this method you must use the included 'Install' program.
-
- INSTALL {from 'Drive:\Directory'} {to 'Drive:\Directory'}
-
- Example: Install b: c:\ctree
-
- The installation program will copy all the files to the new directory.
- If it detects a previous version it will make a copy to ???old.* of
- all the pertinent files then copy the new program over top of the old.
-
- WARNING. It is always useful to have a complete backup of your files
- before you do any copying just in case something goes wrong.
-

- ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Now, to activate the conversion, start up THE CALLING TREE by typing
- 'CT' as you would normally. If this is an upgrade, then you notice
- that THE CALLING TREE will immediately start converting all the old
- data files to the new format before you are allowed to proceed.
-
- 2. Installing the new files to a NEW directory and run it as if you are
- starting it up for the first time. If you choose this method, then
- after you have set up the system operator information, go to the
- Operator Information screen, select [F4] Options, then select '5' to
- Copy Old Data.
-
- When this copy operation is completed you will have two copies of THE
- CALLING TREE on your system. Delete the old when you feel comfortable
- with the new version.

- Section #3: {Top: Upper Right}. Today's date (from the system date) along
- with the number of people in the tree's database and the current system mode
- (ADD, EDIT or RETRIEVE)
-
- Section #4: {Top: Lower Right}. The number levels this particular member is
- removed from the top of the tree, the number of people they have assigned to
- their personal family queue (or frontline for network marketing types) and
- the total number of people in their entire downline group.
-
- Section #5: {Center}. The main portion of the screen provides the fields
- where you Add, Edit or Retrieve a member's information.
-
- Section #6: {Bottom}. The bottom part of the screen is a comments field for
- any information you may wish to enter on any member of the tree.
-
- On all new screens, when you are adding a new member to the tree, you will
- notice that the country field defaults to the system's country name or
- abbreviation. This was done in order to facilitate entering lots of members
- without having to re-enter redundant information.
-
- ------------------------------------------
-
- While you are in this screen, the available functions at the member screen
- are as follows...
-
- [F1] Help
-
- The [F1] key is active through out and brings up context sensitive help
- in a help window. It will explain everything there is to explain at
- this point.
-
-
- [F2] ListALL (ListSUB)
-
- * ALL - Pressing this [F2] key will give the user a window with an
- alphabetical listing of all the members of the tree starting with A
- selected from the full tree database.
-
- * SUB - If you have done a Key Word or Phrase search and are
- consequently looking at a subset of the tree database then pressing
- the [F2] key will give you a list of only the people in the subset.

- characters long. To view the whole field press [F3]. You will see a
- new window with 8 lines of 64 characters, displaying the full comments
- field.
-
-
- [F4] Assign
-
- Press the [F4] key if you want to assign this member (new or old) to a
- new upline family queue parent. Pressing this key will give you a
- window listing all the other members in the tree who are available to
- have as a parent. Choosing the same parent will yield no change. If
- you chose a parent who is currently in this person's downline then you
- will notified of such a case and will not be allowed to move this
- person's downline with them when they are moved. Their downline in
- that instance will compress up to their previous parent.
-
- Note: If you configured THE CALLING TREE for automatic assign then you
- will not have to assign new members. The program will
- automatically pick out the next available member closest to the
- root of the tree to assign the new member to. Using the
- Automatic Assign feature assures that you will have a locally
- balanced tree with everyone getting calls as efficiently as
- possible.
-
-
- [F5] Dial
-
- THE CALLING TREE will dial any attached modem with a phone number on
- the screen. Vanity phone numbers are supported. This means phone
- numbers can be alpha/numeric. (i.e. 555-4444 or KKK-LLLL). ABC=2,
- DEF=3, GHI=4, JKL=5, MNO=6, PQRS=7, TUV=8, WXYZ=9
-
- Place the cursor in a phone number field with a phone number entry in
- it. Then press the [F5] key to dial that number. You will see a
- small insert window showing the number that is being dialed. When the
- number has been dialed you hit the space bar or any other key. This
- will return you to the member Add/Edit screen.
-
- If you press the [F5] key with the cursor anywhere else on the screen
- except in a phone number field the cursor will move to the first phone
- number field with a phone number in it. If this is the correct number
- to dial merely press the [F5] key again. If it is not then [TAB] or
- cursor over to the correct field then press [F5].
-
-
- [F6] Print
-
- Press the [F6] key to print members to screen, disk or printer. You
- must have a Member of the Tree currently displayed on the window to
- print it. You will be notified if you do not have a member displayed.

- This key will bring up the standard Print Options Screen with the
- particular individual's ID placed in the ID field.
-
- When you have entered and run a database (full tree) search that
- produces 1 or more matches (hits) - (See 'Search' below), then the
- system places these records in a file which is a Sub Set of the whole
- database. This allows you to Print out a much smaller file (SubSet)
- instead of the whole database. All of the standard keys work, but now
- they work on just the SubSet file.
-
- Pressing the [F6] key will give you the following printing options from
- a 'FULL TREE' or a 'TREE SUBSET': Full Family Queue Sheets, Mailing
- Labels (for those with an address) or Member Lists for All Members,
- Members with a Family Queue of at least one person, Members without any
- Family Queue, Key word search of any member, or and individual member.

-
-
- GROUP BUILD:
- ───────────
-
- THE CALLING TREE's strong point is the management and quick view

-
- If a member of the tree is going to be responsible for calling 10

- the individual's full downline group then use this option. A
- semi-permanent SubSet of the database will be created that will enable
- you work on the list without it reverting to the full database.
-
- To differentiate between Family Queue Build and Group Build, the Family
- Queue build will only create a subset file of just the member's

- area of the 101 keyboards.
-
-
- [PgUp]Upline
-
- Page up through the tree by pressing the PgUp key.

- [ALT-F1]
-
- Automatically will append the system date to the end of the
- information in the field the cursor is located in. If the field is a
- date field you will see the system date appear in that field,
- overwriting any previous date. The default date format is "MM/DD/YY",
- but this format change be changed to a format more of your liking
- through 'S'-System Defaults.
-
-
- [ALT-F2]
-
- Will bring up a calendar view of the current month with today's date
- flashing. Enter any year in the Year Field to display the current
- month in that year. You can page backward or forward in time one
- month at a time using the [F9], Left Arrow, [PgDN] keys or [F10],
- Right Arrow, TAB or [PgUP] keys. You can page forward or backward one

- └────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
-
- Viewing is a quick way to jump into your database. Pressing 'V' on your
- keyboard or arrow down till cursor is on the 'View Tree List' line then press
- [ENTER] or [RETURN]. A window will appear that will give you a quick view of
- the first 11 people in your database starting from the beginning of the
- alphabet. This is called a Select Window. In this type of window and all
- other select windows you as the user get an abbreviated view of each record
- in a list format. It allows for rapid location of records in your database.
-
- You will see a screen with the following headings...
-
- ┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
- │ Last Name Full Name Queue Parent Level FQue Group │
- └──────────── ─────────────── ─────────────── ────── ───── ───── ┘
-
- The Level, FQue and Group numbers are handy reference numbers to understand
- where the person is in the tree and their relationship to others.
-
- Movement around the database or tree and location of the desired record may
- happen in several ways. You may use the method that seems most expedient to
- you. Let me explain the options here.
-
- Select Window Options:..
-
- One option of moving about the database through this type window is to
- move the cursor line up and down with the arrow keys, page up and page
- down keys, home and end keys till you find the desired member data line.
- Pressing [ENTER] will display the member's full record on the Edit
- Screen.
-
- Another option is to press the letter on the keyboard that refers to the
- first letter of the last name field. Let me explain. If you are trying
- to find someone with the last name of Turner. Press the 'T' on your
- keyboard. The window will instantly redisplay with the cursor line on
- the first occurrence of someone with their last name starting with the
- letter 'T'.
-
- If you have thousands of people in your database and the first view you
- get is Ab... through At..., then rather than paging down repeatedly, just
- press the 'T' key to jump directly to the portion of the tree's database
- that starts with the letter 'T'. Then if 'Turner' is not there you need
- only page down a few times to get to the area of the database with
- 'Turner'.
-
- Another option is to press [F1] and then enter a more complete
- description, of what you are looking for in the tree's database (say for
- example 'Tur' for all names starting with 'Tur'). Then press [ENTER].
- The database will jump directly to the nearest occurrence of the name
- 'Tur'.

- │ │
- │ SEARCHING FOR / RETRIEVING MEMBER RECORDS │
- └────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
-
- THE CALLING TREE offers the user several methods to locate and assemble
- members that meet your specifications.
-
- The options are by: Member ID, Last Name, Phone Number, Date, Level, Queue
- Size, Group Size or any word or phrase in their record.
-
- Some of these options will just retrieve the first or nearest record while
- others will build a new subset of the database from all the record in the
- main of full database that satisfy your needs.
-
- Quick Find: The first and fastest method of finding and retrieving any
- member's record is to Retrieve a member's record by last name from the main
- menu. Choosing this option from the main menu will bring up the 'Member
- Add/Edit' screen with the cursor located in the 'Last Name' field. Type as
- many characters of the member's last name to be unique enough, then press
- [ENTER] or [F8]. The program will produce a list of all members in the
- current database starting with the nearest spelling to that which you
- entered. You may jump around this list by pressing the first letter of a
- member's last name. 'B' for Brown, 'M' for Morrow, etc.
-
- The other options are all available by pressing the [F7] key while in the
- 'Member's Add/Edit' screen.
-
- The Options [F7] key from the 'Member Add/Edit' will give your several
- options. Looking at the list of options here, you will notice,
-
- RETRIEVE A MEMBER's RECORD:
- ──────────────────────────
-
- Here you have the ability to retrieve records (without clearing the screen).
- The search can be based on four basic search criteria.
-
- The RETRIEVE option can be by NAME, DATE, PHONE, ID NBR. Place the cursor in
- the appropriate field and enter the information you are looking for. Then
- press the [F8] key.
-
- [Member Name:] If you are looking for a particular member, you
- can locate it here. A quick view/select window will appear
- with the closest matching records in the current working file
- (Main or SubSet) displayed in alphabetical order. The
- view/select list is not a new subset file, just a quick view of
- the sorted names based on the current working file.
-
- A special option is available here. You may use the double
- period to designate a range of names. Examples: 'ab..ne' will
- yield a match of all records with last names from AB.. to NE..
- '..RUSH' will yield all matching records with the last name
- from the beginning to RUSH. 'HAS..' will yield all records
- with the last name HAS to the end of the file. The range of

-
- names satisfying this search spec. will be deposited in a
- SubSet file. The new SubSet file will become the new working
- file.
-
- [Phone Number:] If you are looking for a phone number, if one
- record appears in the tree with that number, then that record
- will be directly displayed. If there is more than one
- occurrence of the phone number in the tree a select window will
- appear listing all the members with that phone number (in any
- phone field).
-
- The phone number retrieval is irrespective of field. Enter a
- phone number and it brings looks at ALL phone number regardless
- of Day, Night, Fax etc. This view/select screen is not a new
- subset file, but just a view of sorted numbers from the current
- file. If you want the search to field specific use the [F7]
- Search 'Field' option.
-
- Quick Find: From the member's Add/Edit screen, just place the
- cursor in a desired phone number field and press the [PgUp] or
- [PgDn] key to produce an Ascending or Descending sorted SubSet
- list of all members with a phone number in that field. Or,
- place a '{}' in the phone number field and repeat steps above
- to produce a similar list, but with a NO phone number in that
- field.
-
- [Date:] If you are looking for a date the program will look for
- exact date matches in the field you had the cursor in. The
- date searches are therefore field specific. So only Date 'A'
- dates will be searched if you place the search date in Date 'A'
- field. The default date format it 'MM/DD/YY', but this format
- can be changed through 'System Defaults'.
-
- [ID NBR:] If you select this option you will be able to specify
- a specific ID in the member's ID Field. The program will grab
- the individuals record you have specified. If there is not ID
- number in file that matches then you will get a notice to that
- effect.
-
-
- SEARCH DATABASE
- ───────────────
-
- The SEARCH option will give you far more capability to search the database
- for the record or records you are looking for.
-
- The search may be cumulative. That is, you may do a search on the database,
- creating a subset based on one parameter. They you may do another search on
- the newly created subset based on a second parameter. An so on, until you
- have produced the subset file with just the records you are looking for.
-
- The search database option is far more powerful than a simple retrieve.
-
- The first Search choice here allows search for:..

-
- [Date {Range}:] The 'Date' selection will give you a new
- window from which you may select all members based on a range
- of dates in a specific date field with an ascending 'A' or
- descending 'D' sort.
-
- You may select all fields with a date in them 'D', without the
- date at all 'N', ignore this and select all 'A' records date
- or no date, or 'F' to select a range of dates From..To.
-
- So if you want to look up all people who have a date in Date C
- between 09/01/93 and 10/01/93 put a 'C' in the date field and
- place the first date in the BEGIN (FROM) field and the second
- date in the END (TO) field. Indicate which order you want the
- list sorted by and then press [ENTER].
-
- If you press [ENTER] in an empty BEGIN (FROM) DATE field the
- date '01/01/50' will be used as the default from date. If you
- press [ENTER] in an empty END (TO) field the system date for
- today will be used as the default END (TO) date. Now,
- pressing [ENTER] in the Begin Search field will produce a
- select window listing all the members satisfying that date
- search specification.
-
- Quick Date Sort View: The [PgDn] and [PgUp] function keys from
- the member ADD/EDIT screen is modified to make this process go
- a little faster.
-
- Quick Date Search Option: If you are in Retrieve or Edit
- Mode and place the cursor in one of the date fields and
- then press the [PgDn] key, you will be presented with a
- window, with a listing ALL the members of the tree's
- database with a date in that field sorted in DESCENDING
- chronological order starting with the newest date. If you
- press the [PgUp] key, you will be presented with the same
- information as before, but in ASCENDING chronological order
- starting with the oldest date.
-
- Example: If you have records with dates in the 'C' field
- such as 01/03/89 and 03/13/95, then with the cursor in the
- 'C' field you
- press PgDn will give you the 95 date first and 89 second.
- If you press PgUp you get the 89 date first and the 95
- second
-
- You may select all member records with NO date in a
- specified date field by placing a "?" in the field by

- [PgDn] it will function like the [F3] key.
-
- The effort here was to make as much of the system's
- information available as possible just by running one's
- fingers over the few keys (arrow, PgUp and PgDn, etc)
- grouped in the right center area of the 101 keyboards.
-
- This date option will only look for dates in the date
- fields.
-
- [Level,Family Queue Size, Group Size:] Either of these options
- will allow you to build a new subset of currently active
- working data file, based on this specification. Say your
- working database file set (subset) happens to be a subset of
- all records with no date in the 'C' date field. Now you want
- to build a subset of that file based on all members who have a
- group size of greater than 5 people. Choose 'G' here and then
- enter a '5' in the '>=' field then press [ENTER].
-
- [Search] The last and definitely not the least of the search
- choices...
-
- There are two options here. Do a search of data by field or
- by the whole record.
-
- * [Field Search:] If you place the cursor in the field you
- want to selectively search, the system will give you a
- window to enter the information you want to search for in
- that field. The system will give you a new subset file
- with just the member records that satisfy the search
- specification.
-
- Special Operators. There are two type of optional
- operators for conducting field or record searches.
-
- General Search String Format is:
-
- {Primary} {Secondary} {word1};{word2;.....;word20}
- Note: The maximum number of words/phrases in a search
- is 20. Each must be separated by a semi-colon.
-
- A) Primary Operator (Optional): If used must be first the
- first element in the search string. These are:
-
- {ADD} to add records to the existing database. If
- the current database is the primary (Full)
- database then the Add operator is ignored.
- Optional Statement form is '{+'
-
- {SUB} creates a new file without this item. Optional
- Statement form is '{-'.
-
- B) Secondary Operator (Optional): If used must follow the
- Primary Operator and precede the actual search words.

- ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- These operators are:
-
- {AND}: "{AND} ABC;XYZ"
- Find 'ABC' and 'XYZ' words in a record or
- field.
- Alternate '{&'. This is ignored is used in
- conjunction with just one search word.
-
- {OR}: "{OR} ABC;XYZ" {Default}
- Find 'ABC' or 'XYZ' words in a record or field.
- Alternate '{~'. This is the Default Operator
- where more than one search word is specified.
- If there is no operator specified at the
- beginning of the search string then {OR} is
- applied. "ABC;XYZ" is the same as "{OR}
- ABC;XYZ". This is ignored if used in
- conjunction with just one search word.
-
- {NOT}: "{NOT} ABC;XYZ" 'Option {! XYZ
- Find 'ABC' but not 'XYZ' words in a record or
- field. Alternate '{!'. This is treated like a
- {SUB} is used in conjunction with just one
- search word.
-
- {*: "{*" 'For Field Searches Only!'
- Find all records with ANYTHING in this field.
- The field IS NOT empty.
-
- {}: "{}" 'For Field Searches Only!'
- Find all records with NOTHING in this field.
- The field IS empty.
-
- {?: "{?" 'For Field Searches Only'
- Find all records whether there is something in
- the field or not.
-
- C) Search String(s). There may be aup to 20 search
- strings elements that follow any operators that may be
- present. All search string elements must be separated
- by a semi-colon ";".
-
-
- * [Record Search Key Word/Phrase:] As opposed to the 'Field
- Search' above, this search option will search the members'
- entire record, looking for the occurrence or
- non-occurrence of the desired key word or phrase. The
- same search operators in 'Field Search' above are also
- active here with the exception of '{}', "{?' and '{*'.
-
- Simple Search: To look for the occurrence of a word, just
- enter it here and press [ENTER]. If the Key Word or
- Phrase occurs anywhere in the tree it will be found. This
- search can be case insensitive or sensitive. The search
- can also be based on the exact occurrence of the word or

- general occurrence of the word or phrase. Looking for an

- insensitive. If Exact="Y", looking for "pass" will find
- 'pass' but not 'passenger' or 'bypass'. You can look for
- dates in the comments field this way.
-
- If the '{!' or '{NOT}' operator is used with one search
- word or phrase then it is treated like a '{SUB}'. If it
- is used in conjunction with two or more search words
- (separated by ';') then if is treated like - Find string1
- but not string2 etc' -
-
- If the '{+' or '{AND}' operator is used with one search
- word then it is ignored and treated like a straight one
- word search. If it is used with more than one search word
- then each word (separated by ';') must be in the string
- for the search to be satisfied.
-
- If the '{~' or '{OR}' operator is used with one search
- word then it is ignored and treated like a straight one
- word search. If it is used with more than one word then
- any of the words must be found for the search to be
- successful.

- Family Size: [1..999]: To automatically build the tree as you are adding new
- members, the program will need to know the maximum family queue
- size to work with. Then if you opt to use the Automatic Assign
- feature the each new member will be added to the next available
- family queue, thus building a balanced tree. The program also

-
- ID Assign: THE CALLING TREE supports the ability for you the user to
- either let the system Automatically assign record ID numbers of
- each member (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6... etc) or to Manually assign
- each record ID (up to 12 characters in length) at the time you
- enter the record. You may also switch back and forth between
- the two systems as you like. The member's ID number is printed
- out with their information on some reports. If you select
- 'Automatic' then the ID field on the Member's Add/Edit screen
- will be locked and you will not be able to move the cursor to
- this field.
-
- Exact Match: When performing a search on the database you have an option to

-
- Pressing [F7] here will bring up an Alternate Program Add/Delete window.
- Just enter the information in the appropriate fields and then press F8 to
- save. You may also press [F4[ to get a directory of the files on your hard
- disk. From this directory listing you need only point and click to select
- the programs to launch.
-
- If any information is entered in the 'Switches' field, it will be added to
- the program name at run time. i.e. if 'ct.txt' were entered in the Switches
- field, then at run time, the program would issue this command
- 'C:\DOS\EDIT ct.txt', just as if you had entered at the dos prompt.
-
- If a program is launched from a member's add/edit screen, CT will, unless
- otherwise specified, produce a default file called 'CT.TXT' with the member's
- name, address, city, state and zipcode as if it were going to be used to
- address a letter for correspondence.
-
- The information that can be put out to the CT.TXT file is customizable

- family queue. It is conceivable that you will want to know who
- it is your upline or is going to be calling you if it is other
- than the person you where expecting. This option will let you
- who is upline from you.
-
- Example: Bob call Dick who in turn call Mary, who in turn calls
- Adam. The print out sheet header will look as follows
- for 1, 2 and 3 options
-
-
- ┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
- │ Adam's Level (1) option will print as follows.. │

-
- Print Down: Next the program wants to know how many levels (0,1-50) below
- to print while printing a family queue. It is conceivable that
- you will want to know who each member of your family in turn
- has in their individual family queue and maybe even in each of
- their family queues, in order to facilitate the contacting
- process.
-
- Note: The limits of this field are: The minimum is '0' for
- Lists and MLM Genealogy Reports. The maximum is '50' for
- 'Sheets','Lists and MLM Genealogy Reports (subject to paper
- width and font size limitations). This number is ignored for
- 'Full Record' and 'Mailing Labels'.
-
- Example: Bob will call Dick and Sue. Dick will call
- Joe and Louise, Sue will call Harold and Maud.
- Joe will call Ted and Alice, Maud will call
- Frick and Frack.

- Joe Jones, Barry Ober and Gill Trak, Joe Jones then signed up Jack Adams,
- who in turn signed up Fred Wilson, who in turn signed up Bill Gray.
-
- *) Lines/Page: Enter the total number of printed lines that are on one
- typical page.
-
- *) Lines/ Top and Bottom Margins. The program will subtract the top and
- bottom margin setting to determine the printable page size.
-
- *) Lines/Label: Enter the lines per mailing label that you plan to use.
- The mailing printing is done strictly by counting lines. It
- will skip a line and start printing. Then when finished
- printing it will advance the remaining number, printing blank

-
- Additional Options: From the 'Print Screen' you may select two
- additional label printing options.
-
- 1. You may select label printing sorted by Last Name or by Mail
- (Zip) code.
-
- 2. You may select to print all labels in you print set or only

- on the label i.e. Bob Smith (Mary) or Bill Jones (Betty White).
-
-
- This will permit the display of the individuals below the
- primary downline or frontline to this individual. The '0' down
- level is only recognized when printing Lists and MLM Genealogy

- Lists and MLM Genealogy Reports will recognize a maximum of 12
- levels.

-
- *) Number of print lines to a printed label (Minimum of 4). The
- program will print one line of white (space) then the remainder
- of the label in lines. i.e. A 6 line label would be one line of
- white, three lines of address, optionally one line for country
- name/abbreviation, and then one or two lines of white then
- repeat the process. There are no form feeds given in printing
- of labels.
-
- Additional Options: From the 'Print Screen' you may select two
- additional label printing options.
- 1. You may select label printing sorted by Last Name or by

-
- *) Special printer codes. The default code that is sent to the
- printer is ASC 27, @ 'ESC @'. If your printer requires some

- The program will send the code to the printer at the beginning

-
-
- No Printing: You may press the [Esc] key at any point and return to

-
- Upgrading is fairly straight forward. Just type:
-
- INSTALL {from 'Drive:\Directory'} {to 'Drive:\Directory'}
-
- Example: Install b: c:\ctree
-
- The installation program will copy all the files to the new directory. If it
- detects a previous version it will make a copy to ???old.* of all the
- pertinent files then copy the new program over top of the old.
-
- WARNING. It is always useful to have a complete backup of your files before
- you do any copying just in case something goes wrong.
-
- Next change to the CALLING TREE directory and type:
-
- CT, then press [ENTER]
-
- This will convert all your old data to the new version before you are allowed

- SL123.ZIP respectively. Site licenses are available. A PCX
- file may be displayed as one of the random video effects.
-
- SHOWTIME (tm) is an enhancement of SHOWLOGO with the addition
- of a scheduler that will display any text (ASCII) up to a full
- screen for a period of time designated in a scheduler. At the
- end of the designated period of time, SHOWTIME will check the
- scheduler file and display the next scheduled text file.
- SHOWTIME keeps the text message persistent on the screen, with
- various video effects to prevent any damage to the screen. A
- PCX file may be displayed as one of the random video effects.
-
- PUBLIC ACCESS (tm) keeps track of computer usage for public
- sites such as public libraries, copy centers, hotels, airports,
- etc. Any place where they rent their computers to the public
- and they need to control the use of, access to, and track what

- your next lottery ticket. Use EZ-LOTTO. Supports numbered
- sets from 3 to 9 selected from a domain from 0-80. Keep track
- and analyze the lotto numbers picked in as many games as you
- wish to follow. Know which numbers are most likely to be
- picked in each game. Also, the there is a build in automated
- selection process that can be biased to a birth date or
- favorite name. The selection process will show you how many
- possible combinations there are for your setttings. Provides
